The 27th Congress of the International Society of Forensic Genetics (ISFG) took place in Seoul, Republic of Korea and was the first ISFG congress to have been held in an Asian country. Thanks to the impeccable work of the local organizing committee under the patronage of the Prosecutor General Moo-il Moon as the congress president, the conference was a resounding success. The modern Coex Conference Center in the Gangnam district of Seoul welcomed a record attendance of 705 participants (not including exhibitors and meeting support staff) from 65 different countries. The congress offered 11 pre-conference workshops, 56 oral presentations, including a talk by the 2015 ISFG scientific prize winner Dr. Thomas Parsons, and 482 scientific posters. The congress also demonstrated the value of local partnerships. The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of the Republic of Korea functioned as the local organizing committee with senior members of Seoul National University and Yonsei University serving on the local scientific committee.
